The Dark Light of Silver - new short story!

November 5th, 2017

A lot of good news for today. First, of course, is the new short story: The Dark Light of Silver! Second, and I'm very proud to tell you this, is the return of EPUB! And that's not even all of it. Along with the properly formatted EPUB version comes MOBI, an Amazon Kindle compatible version. Head over to the short stories section, take a look and, hopefully, enjoy the story!

EPUB versions removed

September 13th, 2017

As of today, all EPUB versions of the stories have been removed. It was a painful decision, but I strongly believe that it was the right one. All the EPUB files were improperly formatted, which made reading quite uncomfortable. I have just recently learned how to properly format text for EPUB, or any e-book format, really. From now on, you'll see them done correctly. If I manage to reserve enough time for it at some point, I will redo the old stories too, but for now, PDF is, unfortunately, the only choice.

Escape from Shadow Town

August 15th, 2017

A short story, Escape from Shadow Town, has been published by Aphelion Webzine. It's a free magazine that doesn't require subscription to read the content, so head over that way to get your hands on it! The story has been added to my short stories, but the links will point to Aphelion until the end of the year, when the regular PDF and EPUB versions will go online. The step from an aspiring to emerging author may seem small, but it's been received with great enthusiasm. Recognition, after so many years of working, feels absolutely astonishing. The work will continue, but with slightly lighter heart. Special thanks to my dear wife for all the support and encouragement during those grim times of doubt.

World map finalized

April 22nd, 2017

The world map of Aradea has been updated to its final form, including the continents of Amnar and Halfar in their proper place. Take a peek here.

The Annals of Aradea - 5th edition

February 13th, 2017

The Annals of Aradea (formerly known as Origin) 5th edition is finally out. The most complete lorebook to date! It contains a lot of new material concerning the world of Aradea, fleshing out its history, inhabitants and geography more than ever. A lot of the additions have been released in bits and pieces on this website and my facebook page, but a lot of it is something you've never seen before. The last version was released in 2014, and with all of its flaws, I'd say it was about time to get a proper update.

Follow this link to take a peek and delve deeper into Aradea.

Under the Streets of Ashagor

February 4th, 2016

I am very pleased to announce the release of a new short story! Under the Streets of Ashagor is quite traditional dungeon crawling story that doesn't try to impress with technical tricks, but instead is an attempt to be entertaining, action-packed little blast. The story evolves around a young slave boy, who is given the opportunity to earn his freedom upon entering the sewers of the city and slaying the malignant rat king. Unwilling to face certain doom, he has no choice but to step through the rusty door and try to fight his way to the horror waiting in the depths.

You may read the story here, in PDF and EPUB formats as usual.

A Couple of Updates

November 10th, 2015

I have added a new paragraph to the "Birth of Aradea" chapter in Origin. I will go through another revision of the entire book during next year, which may result in a release of Origin 4.2. However, please be aware that writing my first novel takes most of my time right now as it is getting close to being finished. It has been two years since I started writing it, and I think with my somewhat limited time I have achieved something truly wonderful. Of course this is something what every author likes to think about their work, but like with everything, time will tell whether I was right or wrong. Have a look at the added paragraph right here. About the new paragraph, well, it seems like dragons have landed on Aradea, or more like they were there all the way from the beginning. Hidden beneath the mountains, rolling hills and forests, they continue to fulfill their master's will.

I have updated the maps of Belmora. The Elvar kingdom of Laurainth has been renamed to Linderon. The Gargoyles and Gorgons are now commonly called Sirithanes by their species, for the new silver serpents steal the name of Wyrms. This change makes a lot of sense since Gargoyles and Gorgons are not reptilian by any means.

The Third Age - Waning

August 9th, 2015

Appendix A3, which describes the end times of Aradea, has been pushed out. It was a little bit messy to figure out the end of the world, and I'm not quite sure if I'm fully satisfied with it yet. At the same time I'm confident it's in a general shape I want it to be, and that possible future changes will evolve around minor details. If you find yourself intrigued, go ahead and take a look at it here.

The Trinity of Ten

May 25th, 2015

I have added another appendix to the Origin, which I want to share with you immediately without waiting for the next revision of the Origin. This time the Aradean mythology has been cleared out a little - if you can ever truly clarify mythology. I will replenish the source on behalf of the Valkyries, for they are creatures that do not seem to come through as they should. The entire subject is rather mysterious and vague, and I would want it more structured and clear. This appendix is a good first step, but I still have work to do on this matter. You can check the new appendix (A2) right here.

Species and Races

May 19th, 2015

I have added an appendix to the Origin, which divides the races into categories by species. This will clarify the behavioral and cosmetic patterns and gives the grammar used a nice sense of unity, which just tends to be lacking in fantasy. This is caused by constant mishandling of species (humans) and races (Caucasians, Asians, etc.). Former is spelled lower case and the latter is capitalized. I'm not saying that every single fantasy title has this problem, but nevertheless, I wanted to get away from it myself, and thus I have now formally introduced the species of Aradea that cannot crossbreed without boundaries. Due to their genetic similarity, for example, Hurons and Nomads can have children together (both are anathars), but Hurons and Elvars can not (anathar / luthani). I have constructed a nice little table to present this new order. You can see it right here. Like I already mentioned, this table will appear in the next revision of Origin.

Off the Rails

March 18th, 2015

A new short story is out. It's my humble attempt to write something in the spirit of the Twilight Zone. I got the idea for this story once upon a rainy day last fall when I was on a work trip up north. I had to stop in this tiny village in the middle of nowhere, and it seemed like the train station had been abandoned for ages. The building was all crumbled and rotten, and the platform looked like a terrible bus stop with rails running in front of it. As a small miracle, the train did indeed stop there for almost a whole one minute to pick me up. I got away, but the little over an hour I spent there by myself was very haunting - and inspiring. Read the story here!

The Map of Halfar

February 1st, 2015

It's time to introduce the map of Halfar, a harsh arctic continent north from Westerdel and west from Valdor. This frozen tundra is the home of the Forgars, an ancient race that branched off the Darfins in the distant past. Carving their halls beneath the eternal ice, the Forgars have formed an impressive and unique kingdom like no other. The distant cousins of the Darfins have learned and mastered the ways to survive in the most extreme environment found on Aradea. You may study the new map here.

A stands for Aradea

January 19th, 2015

I have rearranged things a little around the library, and because of this I have been able to put some of my older works back online. I didn't do all this just to bring up some old works though, but mostly because there is a new story coming up in the very near future, and while it doesn't happen in Aradea, I think it's an interesting piece made in the spirit of Twilight Zone and Tales from the Crypt. All the works that are related to Aradea are now marked with a small graphical tag that has a letter "A" on it. This should keep the library clean, clear and in good order.

Origin - 4th edition revised

December 4th, 2014

I decided to put out a revision of Origin as I just finished rewriting the races. My attempt was to distinguish the races slightly further from what we consider normal humanoids, and in this process especially the Darfins and Luthans received a lot of distinctive features to set them apart from the rest. I didn't want to go overboard with anything, yet I wanted something more. I believe I'm quite happy with the changes for the time being, but if there is an obvious need for more, then I'll return to this subject at later notice.

Origin - 4th edition

November 20th, 2014

I have finished the 4th edition of The Book of Ages, which is renamed to Origin to describe the nature of this book as it begins with the creation of the universe itself, thus being the origin of everything. The structure of the book has been redesigned with some new parts added and some removed. I've been struggling to find balance between story content and pure, cold documented events (the annals), but I believe it's finally shaping up to be closer to my liking. My humble opinion is that this version is by far the best and easiest to read, making it more convenient to use and search for information.

The year is approaching its end, and I know it's been awfully quiet around here, but I've been busy with work and writing the first novel, so things are happening - just not always at the pace I would prefer. The feelings of rage and frustration seem quite common these days, but I continue to believe it will pay off one day.

Belmora map updated

July 18th, 2014

The map of Belmora has been updated alongside with The Book of Ages. The world has been renamed to Aradea in order to reflect the history more than it did before. The original name of the unified continent was Ara, and the potent matter that binds the aether to this world is called Awen (or Sul'Awen, as mentioned in the ancient literature). This has urged me to find a new name that would better compliment the existing elements of the world, and I think I managed to make up a good one.

The work on the first novel continues. It's now 9 chapters long, which may sound like not a lot, but each chapter is much longer than those you can see in my published work. Things are looking quite good, and it's very interesting to shape up the story as it twists and turns in a way that can't really be achieved in a short story - or even a novella.
